2010 in brief

I still remember celebrating New Year's Day of 2010 like it was yesterday. Today is 1 day before the eve of 2011. Looking at my blog, kudos to me for having only 3 post for the whole year. So 'much' progress. It must have been all the updating on facebook and twitter that robbed my time from updating here.

Since the emergence of facebook, tweeter and tumblr, we get updates about people's lives on the fly. Shorter and sweeter. Most of my updates have been posted up there, than here. I feel it redundant at times to post up the same things everywhere.

I wish I had more time to blog. For one, it helps keep my English in check, which has been quite rusty of late. The writer's block is still blocking my writing. And secondly, it helps me reflect about my life. Unfortunately, time eludes me. Maybe I have to get better on time management. This year feels like a rushed blur. I need time to reflect. Maybe getting stuck at the car workshop with a laptop and wifi isn't so bad after all.

As I'm thinking about 2010 at a glance, I'm also thinking about 2009 at a glance, since I didn't have time to do it:p

My 2010 at a glance (in no particular order):

Dear Corone,

Thank you very much for your kind intentions.

However, although the blog author seems to be yellow skinned and slanty eyed, English IS his first language. You see, Malaysia used to be a former British colony. There is a subset of society (our parents' generation) that attended English missionary schools and were English educated. Hence, their children speak English at home and about 70% of the time.

It is not uncommon to see a Malaysian Chinese who cannot speak any Chinese but speaks fluently in English. For more information on the subset of society, please read this wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysian_Chinese#English_educated The blog author is Peranakan, by the way. (Peranakans are mentioned in the article)

I think when he wrote "For one, it helps keep my English in check, which has been quite rusty of late", he was referring to formal written English (carefully structured sentences)as opposed to casual online chatting (which happens almost everyday).

If anything, he needs help with his Mandarin (Chinese), which is below elementary level. And perhaps Malay, which most of us shelf after graduating from secondary school.

Thanks for your kind intentions tho' :) Happy New Year!

Whoops

"Malaysia used to be a former British colony." should read "Malaysia is a former British colony."
